Slow downs

McKenna Sale 059

Sorry I haven’t written in so long, but I’ve been incredibly busy!  Ok, that’s a lie.   Business has been incredibly slow, which often makes me less productive.   I started to get worried about two weeks ago.  Were my ads still in place?  Had the economy totally tanked?  Did I have bad breath?  Why wasn’t anyone calling me to set up an estate sale?  ANY estate sale!  Maybe, I started to think, maybe even a garage sale!  Finally, just as I contemplated looking for “real” work, things changed once again.  In one day alone, I got more calls than I’d received in the previous month and they kept rolling in for the next week.  They didn’t all come from one source, either, so I couldn’t conclude that perhaps the whole internet had been at fault.  I got calls from people referred to my company by past satisfied customers; calls from random folks who’d walked into a friend’s vintage store and asked for help getting rid of a lot of stuff, which is when they were referred to me; some came from real estate agents calling on behave of their clients; quite a few came after the person had found my company on the internet.  Now I have sales lined up through April.  What’s going on?  As I looked back over previous blog entries, I can see that this isn’t a new situation.  Last February was the same.   Just the usual cycle of the business, it seems.  Guess I’ll stick with adventure a bit longer.

  1. Same with my business, normally from Thanksgiving to mid January it’s very quiet & then it picks up about the second or third week of January. Reverse this year, November nothing but that was ok because I was so far behind on everything it gave me a chance to get caught up on my paperwork & general cleanup. December busy first two weeks (never had that before), January busy, then nothing. And I mean nothing, as in I started checking my phone several times a day to see if it was still working. Tying up loose ends on a few projects but not one phone call for anything new. Trying to stay busy – and the garage alone could keep me occupied for weeks – but it’s still nerve wracking. Glad to hear your dry spell is over, hopefully mine will come to an end soon.

    • It’s odd how it works! I think I’d appreciate the slow times more if I didn’t always worry that they might not end. I hope your slow spell ends soon, and I’m sure it will.
